New WSS Champion van der Mark leads opening day
12 riders within a second at Magny-Cours
After topping FP1, newly crowned World Supersport Champion Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda) continues to dominate World Supersport, ending the opening day of action at Magny-Cours on top of the standings after improving his morning time on his final lap of FP2.
Roberto Tamburini (San Carlo Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) elevated himself to 2nd in the final minute ahead of the sensation of the day, wildcard rider Lucas Mahias (MG Competition) Yamaha who finished a very impressive 3rd overall.
Florian Marino (Intermoto Kawasaki Ponyexpress) was 4th on combined times ahead of Kev Coghlan (DMV-Panavto Yamaha), who had been ruled out of FP1 early because of a technical problem.
Massimo Roccoli (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) also improved in the final seconds of FP2 to move into the top 6.
His team mate Jules Cluzel, who is aiming to secure 2nd overall in the standings crashed in the final part of FP2, thankfully without injury. The Frenchman ended the day 12th.
