Dall’Igna: ‘It will be an exciting season for Ducati’
General Manager acknowledges Italian manufacturer can bounce back.
Luigi Dall’Igna, the General Manager of Ducati Corse, is confident that the bikes of Davide Giugliano and Chaz Davies can be regular front-runners in this year’s eni FIM Superbike World Championship.
On Monday, the new-look Aruba.it Racing-Ducati SBK Team bikes were unveiled in Arezzo, Tuscany. Prior to this, Giugliano had topped the final European pre-season test in Jerez courtesy of a blistering lap time in ideal weather conditions.
In a season of technical rule changes, not least involving engines and electronics, Ducati believe they can reap the rewards.
“I hope it will be an exciting season,” Dall’Igna comments. “Something has changed over the winter with the new rules.
“Now we have to prepare the bike for the new rules. I think Ducati will have some benefits from that because our starting point – the Panigale street bike – is really, really fast and so, with the small changes, we have a really good bike.
“Generally speaking, I think the best is the compromise between electronics, chassis and engines. This is really important because the compromise is one of the main steps to be able to achieve great results.”
In 2015, Ducati is targeting its first WorldSBK race victory since Sylvain Guintoli took an Italian machine to victory at Magny-Cours in 2012. This means the current Panigale model – which debuted at the start of 2013 – is yet to claim a race win.
