Davies back on top as Tissot-Superpole approaches

Saturday, 11 April 2015 08:35 GMT

3 British and 3 Spanish riders fill the top 6 on combined classification.

Britain’s Chaz Davies will lead the WorldSBK field into this afternoon’s Tissot-Superpole thanks to the fastest lap of the weekend in FP3. The Aruba.it Ducati Superbike rider was the only rider to break the 1.51s barrier, lapping the MotorLand Aragon circuit in a time of 1.50.934s to edge current championship leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) by 0.080s.

3rd position overall went to the second factory Ducati of Xavi Fores (+0.359) who continues to excel on his first ride in this year’s championship. Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team) closed to within 0.371s of Ducati mounted Davies, who was 4th, a fraction ahead of Tom Sykes (+0.445) who was the only one of the leading riders that failed to improve on his time from yesterday.

Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) looked more comfortable, elevating himself into 6th (+0.457) ahead of compatriot Nico Terol (Althea Racing) who also made great strides forward this morning to claim 7th overall (+0.816s) and an automatic Superpole 2 start.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), David Salom (Team Pedercini) and Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) were the final 3 riders inside the top ten, ensuring that they are in contention to fight for a place on the front four rows later today.

There was disappointment for Sylvain Guintoli (Pata Honda World Superbike Team), the reigning World Champion only able to salvage 11th in the combined standings with his final lap of the session, as both Voltcom Crescent Suzuki riders also struggled. Alex Lowes was 12th with Randy de Puniet 16th. All three will have to fight it out, along with the riders placed 11th to 20th in Superpole 1, for the chance to progress into the final 15 minute grid deciding session that is scheduled to take place at 1525 local time.
