Davies fails to improve but remains fastest ahead of Tissot-Superpole

Exciting final minutes of FP3 decide the Superpole qualifiers.

After an enthralling FP3, held in dry but cold conditions at the iconic TT circuit Assen in the Netherlands, Chaz Davies (Aruba.it – Ducati Superbike Team) will lead the field into this afternoon’s Tissot-Superpole courtesy of his FP2 time (1.35.748s) that ensured he was one of the ten rider to automatically have the chance to fight for Pole Position. Davies was the only rider within the top 16 that failed to improve on yesterday.

Behind Davies there were too many changes of position to comment on individually, Leon Haslam (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) moved into 2nd (+0.198s) with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) 3rd overall (+0.276).

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) finished 4th (+0.279) with Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) once again getting faster as the weekend progresses (+0.318s) and Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) completing the top six (+0.367s).

Alex Lowes moved into the top ten in 7th before his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki suffered a technical problem as Nico Terol (Althea Racing) elevated himself into a fine 8th after several personal improving laps that saw him close to within 0.675s of Davies’ time.

9th went eventually to Xavi Fores (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Superbike Team), the Spaniard having a strong end to FP3 on only his second 2015 appearance,

The MV Agusta Reparto Corse machine in the hands of Leon Camier was once again in contention in 10th, less than a second from the front and giving the MV brand its first ever Superpole 2 position.

Just missing out on the top ten, and therefore having to take part in Superpole 1 at 1500 local time along with the other riders placed 11th to 20th after the combined Free Practice sessions was Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing) who had been running as high as 7th in the session before the flurry of fast laps in the final moments.

Leandro Mercado (Barni Racing) was the only faller, the Argentine rider uninjured after losing the front of his Ducati at Turn 5.
