Mixed fortunes for Althea Racing duo in Thailand

Baiocco ends first race in sixth, Terol not at ease with the Thai track.

The second round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship drew to a close in Thailand last Sunday with some positive results for the Althea Racing Team and especially Matteo Baiocco, who claimed an impressive sixth place in race one before crossing the line in eight place at the end of the second encounter.

Other Althea Racing rider Nico Terol had a harder time than his team mate in getting to grips with the all-new Chang International Circuit. The former World Champion, who ended up both races in twelfth, is now looking forward to the first of two home rounds, taking place circuit on April 12th at the MotorLand Aragon, a track he knows from his 125cc and Moto2 times.

Matteo Baiocco: “I’m pleased to have made continuous improvement throughout these two races. Even in qualifying, we saw we had the potential for a top-8 finish in the two races. I made two good starts and was able to maintain a good pace for the entirety of both encounters. We made big steps forward since Phillip Island and I hope to keep the momentum going in Aragon. The guys worked very hard and the bike was really good. Being the first Ducati rider at the line in both races made the team and myself very proud.”

Nico Terol: “I have had more difficulties than I expected last weekend, I was unable to get to grip with the circuit the way I wanted. This will make me on to work harder especially as the team did their best to help me finding a set-up that could help me get up to speed. My pace improved in race 2 although the final position did not change. Now I’m only thinking about Aragon, a circuit I really like.”
