Similar feedback from Guintoli and Lowes worth weight in gold to Yamaha.

Having two riders who are capable of providing such comparable feedback is already proving to be an advantage for Yamaha, despite the WorldSBK version of the YZF-R1 having completed just a single test to date.

Last week, the Crescent Racing-run bikes made their World Superbike testing debut at Jerez in the south of Spain, with Alex Lowes and 2014 World Champion Sylvain Guintoli at the helm. By the end of the test, both men were providing similar pointers.

“We are lucky because we can count on two fantastic guys,” Andrea Dosoli, Road Racing Project Manager for Yamaha Motor Europe, explained to WorldSBK.com.

“Not only because they are fast, but because they can give us a very deep analysis of what is going on out on the track. This will help the development of the machine. The feedback is good from both sides. At the moment, both of them have highlighted the areas in which the bike has to be improved and both have exactly the same opinion.”

Last week, 2015 World Champion Jonathan Rea revealed that he expects the two Yamaha bikes to be challenging towards the front of the field. However, Dosoli has reiterated that he is looking more towards the second half of the upcoming campaign.

“We believe we have all of the tools to, step-by-step, improve our performance,” the Italian began to sum up. “By the middle and second half of the season, we would like to close the gap to the top guys.”

In 2015, the various successes of the Yamaha YZF-R1 included winning the Suzuka 8 Hour race and titles in both the European and British Superbike Championships. Its next WorldSBK test will come at MotorLand Aragon on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
