Donington Set to Stun with Full Fan Weekend

Tuesday, 2 February 2016 16:40 GMT

UK track confirms action-packed plan for WorldSBK race in May.

World Superbike features a new split race format for this season, with races being held on Saturday and Sunday. At Donington Park, the lights will go out for each WorldSBK race at 3pm. These two showcase races, however, are in addition to a total of seven others across the weekend, which includes action from World Supersport, Superstock 1000, the Ducati TriOptions Cup, European Junior Cup, and the National Superstock 600 and 1000 series.

The World Superbike race timings will mean riders and teams will be able to engage in more interaction with spectators at the circuit, with some already confirmed to make appearances at Donington’s improved camping zone. The camping zone will be located on the circuit infield and will also have dedicated entertainment to be laid on for those staying over, including live music.

Fans will also be able to gain access to the paddock for the first time at no additional charge, meaning they will be able to get much closer to the riders and the teams. Accessibility is a key draw of WorldSBK, alongside the close wheel-to-wheel action, and free paddock access means there is now no line between the fan and the rider. With so many home riders in the field, it will prove a fantastic opportunity to get closer to the action than ever before.

“We have been very keen to make the World Superbike race events as spectator friendly as possible,” Donington Park Sporting Director Bob Adams commented. “With the new open paddock, better camping facilities and a good timetable of racing on both days, we are confident that the event will be a big improvement for all spectators. The new race format will encourage anyone coming to make a weekend of it, and enjoy all the additional entertainment.”

The UK Round of the 2016 WorldSBK season takes place at Donington Park on the 27th to 29th of May.
