Fassi French Round: the Weekend That Was

Tuesday, 4 October 2016 10:10 GMT

Davies wins the double while WorldSSP and STK1000 celebrate French victors at Magny-Cours

Round 11 saw one of the most unpredictable racing weekends of the season, where champions fell and home heroes were crowned winners. Aruba.it racing –Ducati’s Chaz Davies proved good things come to those who wait, when the Welshman took his third double of the season in two completely different races.

Race 2 played host to a battle royale in the WorldSBK championship, which saw Kawasaki Racing Teammates Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes in a fierce duel that saw the lead alternate at every corner. Rea walked away victorious increasing his lead over Sykes in the overall standings.

Everything seemed set for reigning World Champion Kenan Sofuoglu to take his fifth World Title in WorldSSP- all he had to do was stay on his Kawasaki. But an uncharacteristic, almost impossible mistake saw the King of WorldSSP crash out of the race with eight laps to go. MV Agusta Reparto Corse’s Jules Cluzel put on a show for home fans to win after an incredible last lap battle.

STK1000 saw Pata Yamaha Official Stock Team’s Lucas Mahias win in spectacular form, leading from beginning to end with over three seconds to spare.
