Sepang International Circuit CEO Razlan Razali was delighted to see Zulfahmi Khairuddin on the podium at his home round

Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin enthralled the home crowd with his battle for WorldSSP victory on Sunday at Sepang and that was good news for the CEO of the circuit Razlan Razali.

After Khairuddin missed out on the win by just 0.05s Razali commented, “The first time he got on the podium was of course in 2012, in Moto3 in the MotoGP World Championship here at Sepang. He came second, so it’s like ‘déjà vu’, in our final year with WorldSBK as we discuss for an extension, and Fahmi pulls out the rabbit out of thhat and does the same thing! We are happy, first would have been nice but we’ll take second.”

He added, “We hope this will motivate him to do better for the rest of the season. This also helps us in our case, in our presentation to the government and to the various stakeholders that we should continue with WorldSBK beyond this year. And to use it as a platform not only as a spectator event but also for us to develop young Malaysian motorsports riders in the World Championship. The crowd has had a taste of what WorldSBK is all about. How different and exciting it is and how unpredictable the races can be.”
