Yamaha Riders Glimpse Their New R6 at EICMA
World Supersport riders can’t wait to race their new machines
Yamaha launched it’s race ready YZF-R6 at the International Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan on Monday. The new R6 will be used in the FIM Supersport World Championship by the GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team and Kallio Racing. The riders of both teams, Lucas Mahias and Federico Caricasulo from the Official Yamaha team together with Niki Tuuli and Sheridan Morais from Kallio Racing attended the exhibition to get the first glimpse of their new race machines.
“I am very happy to be here at EICMA with Yamaha for the presentation of the new YZF-R6,” said Mahias. “This new bike is beautiful and I’m impatient to be able to ride! Federico and myself had a good surprise seeing it in its racing trim. The original model was very good but the new version is really fantastic. Monday evening was a good presentation and now we can look forward to 2017!”
The new 600 boasts improved aerodynamics similar to those seen on Yamaha’s celebrated R1. The new R6 features special racing components like Akrapovic Evo full titanium exhaust, dual Brembo T-drive front brakes, single Brembo rear brake, telescopic forks, front suspension with Ohlins Cartridge kit and threaded Pirelli Diablo tyres. It also includes new electronics similar to those used on the R1 such as a Chip Controlled Throttle and Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake.
Niki Tuuli from Kallio Racing was dazzled by the new R6 and enjoyed his first experience at EICMA. The young Finn said, “The new Yamaha R6 looked very good! I cant wait to ride it! Overall the show was excellent, there were new Yamaha models on show and lots of journalist from everywhere and also from Finland. When Valentino Rossi came in to the show stand, it really did make my day.”
GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team and Kallio Racing will get their first taste of the R6 on track in testing this November, ahead of the 2017 season opener at Phillip Island on the 24th to 26th of February.
