In the Media: Rea’s WorldSBK farewell?
MotorSport magazine reports that top MotoGP teams are interested in the KRT champion
The game of musical chairs for 2019 is in full swing across the motorcycling landscape, with the future rider layout unpredictable and rumours flying from every direction. With little settled at the top of the WorldSBK field, one of the names moving around incessantly is that of three-time champion and current leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK).
The latest rumbling arrives from MotorSport, who report that Rea’s manager Chuck Aksland was visiting Le Mans last weekend, where the fifth round of the MotoGP™ championship was taking place. According to the magazine, a 2019 move could be a possibility that Rea is considering.
Quoting Aksland, the report says that several teams have approached Rea and his manager for talks, “including factory teams”. Rea, who ran two MotoGP™ races in 2012 as a wildcard, finishing in the top-10 both times, could be open to the possibility of a change if “the right ride” was available.
