Leon Haslam to depart KRT at the end of 2019
The ‘Pocket Rocket’ returned to the World Superbike paddock at the start of the season but his services will not be retained by the Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK for 2020
Having moved back into the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship for the 2019 season, Leon Haslam (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will leave the team at the end of the year. The ‘Pocket Rocket’ has had highs and lows throughout the season and will be replaced for 2020 – an announcement of who will be replacing him has not yet been released.
Haslam’s season has featured six podiums, all being third-place finishes, whilst 21 other top-ten results have come his way. Sitting in sixth in the Championship and behind Independent Kawasaki rider and race winner Toprak Razgatlioglu (Turkish Puccetti Racing), Haslam mathematically remains in the battle for third place overall, although he is in a fierce fight with riders above and behind him.
What the future holds for Leon Haslam is uncertain, with plenty of rumours flying around from various sources. However, he will focus on trying to secure a top ride in the WorldSBK paddock, so that he can build on his returning season. As for his replacement, nothing has yet been publicly confirmed and will likely come out in due course and process.
