Laverty named Irish Motorcyclist of the Year
Eugene Laverty was named Adelaide Irish Motorcyclist of the Year for the first time at the Irish Racer Awards in Belfast on Friday night.

As befitting a man whose website www.eugenelaverty.com is characterized by an Irish green hue and whose racing logo is a leprechaun, Laverty will certainly have been delighted to receive the award for his runner-up performance in the 2009 Supersport World Championship, in which he managed to run head-to-head with eventual winner Cal Crutchlow for most of the year.

Laverty came home ahead of runner-up Jonathan Rea, who had an outstanding debut year on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda Superbike, and who also won the Fans' Race of the Year award for his World Superbike win at Misano. 2009 Supersport champion Crutchlow also picked up a special award.
