Moving over from the MotoGP™ paddock, Malaysian hero Hafizh Syahrin will set-out on his first full WorldSBK season with the expanded MIE Racing Honda Team for 2022.
Born in Selangor, Malaysia, Syahrin began racing pocket bikes at the age of nine with great success and graduated through some of Asia’s most competitive classes. In 2012, he switched to Europe where he finished sixth in the CEV Moto2™ European Championship, whilst also making a debut in the World Championship at home at Sepang, leading parts of the Moto2™ race on his way to a heroic third. Since 2014, he was a full-time fixture in Moto2™, scoring two wet weather podiums in 2017 – his last to-date.
Syahrin was a surprise graduate in 2018 to MotoGP™ and was a top ten runner from the off with a best of ninth in Argentina before a marvellous tenth at home in Malaysia from 23rd on the grid. A respectable 16th overall, his Tech 3 team switched to KTM machinery in 2019 and results were harder to come by, and he was back in Moto2™ for 2020. A handful of points-scoring finishes since and a difficult rookie WorldSBK campaign in the bag, the Malaysian rider will be aiming for top ten finishes in 2023.
