New best lap for Nocco in Q1
Sixteen year old Alessandro Nocco (San Carlo Team Italia Kawasaki) leads qualifying after topping the timesheets in today's first session at Silverstone. The winner of the last race at Imola, who already managed to clock below the best lap with 15 minutes left in the session, was able to further improve his time to a final 2'11.410, one second faster than the previous record set by Michael van der Mark last year. Nocco, moreover, has never raced at Silverstone before.
The impressive performance by the young Italian resulted in a big lead over team mate Franco Morbidelli (San Carlo Team Italia Kawasaki) and Championship leader Gauthier Duwelz (MTM-MVR Racing Yamaha), who finished Q1 second and third respectively and were the only two riders able to lap within a second gap from the top.
Aussie Adrian Nestorovic (MTM-MVR Racing Team Yamaha) ended up fourth, ahead of Christian Gamarino (Team Goeleven Kawasaki) and wildcard Luke Mossey (G.B. Racing Yamaha).
