Perfect lap for Niccolò Canepa
Niccolò Canepa (Barni Racing Ducati) has put in an incredible 1'50.338 seconds lap-time to secure provisional pole-position over team mate Eddi La Marra after Qualifying 1. The young but experienced rider from Genova was the only one able to lap within the 1'50s, showing an outstanding form in front of his home crowd. Defending Champion Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Goldbet) ended up third onboard his BMW HP4, ahead of Argentinean Leandro Mercado (Team Pedercini Kawasaki).
The fifth place of Czech rider Ondrej Jezek (SK Energy - Fany Gastro) further proves the competitiveness of the 1199 Panigale on the Italian venue. Monza race winner Lorenzo Savadori, after the disappointing DNF at Portimao, finished sixth onboard his Team Pedercini Kawasaki, followed by Romain Lanusse (Team MRS Kawasaki), Marco Bussolotti (Rider Promotion by T. Trasimeno BMW) and Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Kawasaki), surprisingly 9th.
