Wilairot and Kennedy getting comfortable on their Hondas
The two young stars got to grips with their bikes in a two-day test at Portimao and feeling confident about the challenge ahead
Performance Technical Racing, also known as PTR, is fielding a competitive line-up to be back up front in this year’s World Supersport season. On the spotlight for the PTR teams there are two young talents who are looking forward to leave their mark in the series: Ratthapark Wilairot (CORE’’ PTR Honda) and Jack Kennedy (CIA Insurance Honda).
Both riders were on track at Portimao on January 19-20, for a two-day test that proved helpful for them to get to grips with their new bikes. For former Moto2 entry Wilairot the Supersport World Championship is a whole new challenge, as the 25 year old Thai will be taking on his rookie season, whilst Kennedy has already shown his speed in WSS last year on-board the Rivamoto Honda CBR600RR.
Ratthapark Wilairot, CORE’’ PTR Honda: “There was much for me to learn in this test – everything in fact. My Core” PTR Honda is very good and I am much more comfortable on it now after two days of riding – but there is also more to come from riding and understanding it. My Core” PTR Honda team staff are good and I think we will work well together. Even the Portimao circuit was new for me and I enjoyed that as well. My times were good and now I am looking forward to the next test in Australia ahead of the opening round.”
Jack Kennedy, CIA Insurance Honda: “That was a really good two-day test and I am very happy with my CIA Insurance Honda race bike, team staff and the potential we have for the season. I am loving being back on a bike and can’t wait to get out again.”
Simon Buckmaster, Core” PTR Honda and CIA Insurance Honda Team Manager: “Everything was new for Ratthapark and he just improved step by step through the test, getting better and better. He is happy with his Core” PTR Honda and team and by the time we get to Australia and the opening round I think he will be showing some real potential. Jack got more and more comfortable as the laps went by. He is leaving with a good base setting and we are all really happy. There are no official times as it is a private test but we have looked at what other teams are doing and we know we are right on the pace.”
