Nocco and Tamburini to race with Romboni's numbers
The San Carlo Puccetti Racing Team to honour former Italian rider and team member.
With the recent arrival of Alessandro Nocco, the San Carlo Puccetti Racing Team will field two Kawasaki ZX-6R displaying the race numbers of Doriano Romboni, the former 250cc World Championship rider who lost his life last November during a charity event in memory of Marco Simoncelli in Latina, Italy.
"Doriano was not only a great friend, but an important part of our team", said Manuel Puccetti ". “We worked together over the past three seasons, firstly in the Italian Championship and then on the world stage. These race numbers were used by Doriano in the most successful time of his career, when he was riding the HB Honda and was among the top contenders in the 250cc World Championship. He started with number 10, then opted for number 5. His loss was a real blow for the team, we loved and respected him so I thought it was the least we could do to honour him. Both Roberto and Alessandro agreed immediately to my proposal and both feel proud to be using these numbers."
Nocco worked with Romboni last year in the European Superstock 600 Championship and was extremely pleased to choose number 10 for his rookie World Supersport season.
"When Manuel asked me if I wanted to race with number 10, I said yes straight away" said Nocco. "Actually I already had thought about using one of Doriano's numbers, but I didn't want to be the one making this proposal. It's the least I can do for such an amazing person like him and for his lovely family. I will never forget all he's done for me last year."
Roberto Tamburini added: "Last winter Manuel asked me if I had any preference about the race number. He told me if I wanted to race with Doriano's number and I agreed immediately. Everyone in the team had a great rapport with him. It's an honour and a pleasure for me to be using his number."
