Sylvain Barrier targets Aragon return
The Frenchman missed the season opener due to the injury sustained in official testing.
Frenchman Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team) is currently recovering from the pelvis injury suffered at Phillip Island during the pre-season official test. The reigning STK1000 Championship was diagnosed with three fractures in his pelvis, meaning he had to sit out the opening round the eni FIM Superbike World Championship. Barrier is now aiming to make his official debut in the EVO class at MotorLand Aragon next month.
Not the start of the season you were looking for. How do you feel now? Did you start recovery already?
"Definitely not the kind of start I would have wanted, but I've made a mistake and now I need to move forward. It was a really bad crash and I have three fractures in my pelvis. I already started the recovery and if everything goes well by next week I will start doing some swimming at the pool, then the next step will be aqua cycling."
Do you think you will be back at Aragon?
"Yes I will definitely be at Aragon. Surely I won't be 100% fit but I will do my best to get some good results."
Your substitute rider for the Australian round (Glenn Allerton) showed good speed aboard your bike, you must be pleased that the package you have is already competitive.
"Yes the bike is really competitive and Glenn has a lot of experience. I am really happy that he had two strong races. But it's not just about the bike, but also about everyone working on it. The team and I worked together for 4 years and we know the bike very well. The guys worked very hard to give me such a competitive machine, so from my side I need leave the mistake behind and focus on doing my best from the next race up to the last one. I would like to thank my team for the amazing work they have done over the winter."
