Heat won’t be a factor on Sunday

Riders not too worried about the high temperatures in Thailand.

Despite the ambient temperatures reaching almost 40 degrees Celcius, the WorldSBK riders are not phased.

Speaking during this morning’s pre-event a number of riders were asked their thoughts, not just about the impressive new circuit but the weather and how difficult the two races on Sunday may be.

Almost all without exception were not worried, referring to the similar, if not more humid conditions of the races last year in Sepang and the fact that a number have been in the country for a few days to get used to the heat.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda WSBK Team) – “For sure it’s hot but this is what we train for. The conditions don’t really affect you too much when you are on the bike. I have been here a few days to get used it, and I think I’m in good shape.”

Former champion Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) echoed the words of his rivals adding - “I think that the humidty in Malaysia makes it tougher there than here but for me the issue is always after the chequered flag when racing in such extreme heat. When you slow down and arrive in the Parc Ferme area that can be tough but we are all aware of what we need to do to stay hydrated.”

One thing is for sure, whatever the weather conditions on Sunday, the entire field in both Superbike and Supersport are ready to race. Joint World Superbike Championship leader Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) said – “I am expecting more riders to join the fight at the front here in Thailand. The circuit looks very flowing and the last corner presents an extremely good opportunity to pass, so we could see some last lap moves. It will be great for the fans to see.”
