Salom aims for 2016 decision next week

David Salom continues to work on plans for the upcoming 2016 campaign in the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship. At present, the Mallorcan rider remains without anything set in stone.

Salom ended 2015 in 14th position overall, a result perhaps below initial expectations with the Pedercini Kawasaki team. This followed a successful season in 2014, when the Spaniard led the way in the now defunct EVO class.

“There is still no deal closed, but next week things should be much clearer,” Salom told WorldSBK by telephone on Thursday.

“I am looking at the options I have, both in World Superbike and World Supersport. At this stage it is proving to be difficult to find a place with a competitive team in the WorldSBK category, so perhaps my best option is WorldSSP. I certainly don’t dislike World Supersport, though! In fact, I think it’s a very interesting championship and it is probably better suited to my riding style.”

He went on to state that, should he not secure what he considers to be a strong seat, he will not necessarily be riding in WorldSBK at all next year.

“If I don’t find something decent in World Superbike or World Supersport, I will leave it,” he says. “That is to say…to start the season 100% fit and without a bike to ride, I would simply concentrate all of my efforts on my DS Junior Team, which last year raced in Superstock 600 and which is now in World Supersport with the same rider: Ilya Mikhalchik from the Ukraine.”

Since 2009, David Salom has started 97 World Superbike races. This year, he achieved a career-best result to date when he finished sixth at MotorLand Aragon.
