Van der Mark rests ‘overstressed muscle’
Medical check for Dutchman after leaving Jerez test.
Having sat out the final two days of this week’s WorldSBK test session in Jerez, Michael van der Mark has undergone a medical check in Belgium.
The Honda World Superbike Team rider left Jerez early, missing out on track time on both Thursday and Friday, as he was suffering from discomfort with his right arm.
Following a medical check-up for van der Mark, his team released the following statement on Friday evening:
‘2014 World Supersport Champion Michael van der Mark had to pull out of the test after (his) first day of action due to pain in his right forearm. Initial medical examinations performed at the Stuivenberg Hospital in Antwerp, Belgium, by Dr. Geert Peersman, reported an overstressed muscle, with the presence of fluid, which was aggravated by the cold conditions encountered in MotorLand Aragón early last week. The 23-year-old Dutchman has received initial treatment and will now take a week of complete rest before a further evaluation of his condition takes place.’
Honda continued testing in Spain with van der Mark’s team-mate Nicky Hayden. On Friday, World Supersport rider P.J. Jacobsen was given a run on van der Mark’s World Superbike machine; it was disrupted by a Turn 10 crash, from which he walked away.
