Wednesday, 20 January 2016 11:27 GMT

The rider from Alicante was discharged on Wednesday and is now concentrating on recovery

Javier Orellana underwent successful surgery on Tuesday after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament at the end of last year. The 2015 European Junior Cup Champion suffered a small crash during an Off Road training session on the 22nd of December and although he initially played down the consequences of the crash, continuing problems in his left knee led him to seek the examination that detected the injury.

The 18-year-old left the Quirón Palmaplanas Hospital in Mallorca today and will now begin a period of recuperation, the aim of which is being ready in time to begin a new campaign that will see him debut in the World Supersport class in 2016.

Orellana will be announcing the details of this new project soon, possibly as early as next week.

“The operation went perfectly, everything went to plan,” the rider explained to WorldSBK.com. “Now we’ll work hard to recover. I can’t wait to start racing again. This year I’ll be on track with riders like Sofuoglu and Cluzel, and obviously everything will be a challenge, but last year I already trained with a Superstock bike and I’m hoping this will help me in the change of category.”
