Torres Pleased With Final Results
BMW rider never gave up despite mid-race drama
The Althea BMW Racing team concluded the final race of the 2016 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in Qatar, with positive results for Jordi Torres, who finished sixth.
Race 2 was red-flagged on lap seven, when Saeed Al Sulaiti’s Kawasaki caught fire, spilling oil on the track. Once restarted it was a ten-lap dash to the end and Torres pushed ahead to close the gap on Nicky Hayden and Michael van der Mark, after a poor restart set him back. By the fourth lap though, he had caught up to the Honda riders and overtook them.
“Today’s race went fairly well,” acknowledged Torres. “It was just a shame I messed up the start, in both heats. In the restart, someone also made contact with me and I lost ground as a result. But I quickly got back into a rhythm and gradually made up some places, pushing 100% to finish sixth. So I made a good recovery and am pleased with how we’ve finished the season, sixth in this race but also sixth in the championship.”
With the 2016 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship now concluded, Jordi Torres secured sixth place overall in the standings with 213 points.
