Dutchman secures the inaugural WorldSSP300 victory

In a stunning opening to the new championship for 2017, Scott Deroue (MTM HS Kawasaki) took the first victory in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship following an intense race long battle.

Locked in a race long battle, the 21 year old was able to secure the victory on the final lap, despite the windy conditions making it a tough race for the riders to compete in. With many riders crashing on their debut, Deroue had just one goal in mind and was able to hold onto the lead as they went through the final corners.

“At the beginning of the race it was really hard,” explains Deroue. “The wind was quite difficult and after four laps I had the confidence. I saw Perez and Kalinin build up a gap, so I started to try to close the gap. When Kalinin crashed and I thought, ok I need to try to close the gap to Perez. So I pushed for a few laps, then I pushed really hard and in the final few laps. I was closing, closing, closing and on the last lap I was quite nervous that he’d overtake me on the back straight, but we won and it’s an awesome feeling.”

Satisfied with his overall weekend – securing pole position and the race win – Deroue now looks to his home Round at Assen in just under three weeks time, where he will no doubt have a strong crowd support. Keep up with all the home support with the WorldSBK VideoPass, by subscribing here.
