Winner of the last two World Supersport 300 races in the championship, Mika Perez (WILSport Racedays) was unable to make it three out of three as the series returned from their summer break, around the tough circuit of Lausitzring.

Taking the EJC race win in Germany last season, 17 year old Perez started in second position on the grid for this seasons Prosecco DOC German Round and he was hopeful he could have secured the victory. Locked in a sensational race-long battle for the victory with his fellow riders, the power of his CBR500R was unable to help the Spaniard to hold the lead to the line. Despite securing third position, he has now taken the lead in the world championship standings by three points, ahead of compatriot Marc Garcia (Halcourier Racing).

 Taking positives from a hard fought race, Perez is not downbeat to have missed out on the victory: “I’m really happy to have secured a podium and to be leading the championship standings; I think the race was really difficult with the big fight for the podium, as well as a big fight for the first position. We had a lot of overtakes because there was a lot of wind but I’m really happy with the final result. I had hoped to win the race, I tried to pass Coppola before the final lap and it was possible, but unfortunately not on the last lap and I don’t know why, but I’m really happy to be at the top of the championship and I will try to get more points.”
