Rea leads timesheets in FP2
Three-time champion returns to top with teammate Sykes in second
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) dominated the second practice session at the Automodrom Brno circuit, as the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship riders made the most out of a dry track to squeeze into the provisional Superpole 2 places, ahead of an unpredictable FP3 this afternoon.
Rea was the first rider on the day to run a lap under two minutes, and his final best time of 1’59.448 was over two tenths of a second faster than teammate Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who finished the session in second. Third was three-time Brno race winner Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati).
Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) recorded the fourth fastest time of FP2, after having a previous fastest lap deleted, with Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), in second most of the 40-minute session, finally finishing in fifth.
Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) was again the faster Aprilia on track with the sixth best lap, ahead of Leon Camier (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) in seventh. Loris Baz (GULF ALTHEA BMW Racing Team) was the only rider from the morning’s top 6 to remain amongst the best 10 riders in FP2, finally recording the eighth best lap of the session.
Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) progressed from his morning’s efforts with the ninth fastest time, while Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) took the final provisional Superpole 2 spot in tenth, one second behind Rea. The session was red-flagged twelve minutes in due to a crash by Yonny Hernández (Team Pedercini Racing) at turn 5, with the rider unharmed.
