Lowes reacts after rollercoaster day at MotorLand Aragon
Alex Lowes started from fourth and led Race 1 in the early stages, but a scary looking crash ended his race early
As MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship action moved from the rollercoaster of Portimao to MotorLand Aragon for the Prosecco DOC Aragon Round, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) continued the rollercoaster theme by himself despite completing just four laps of racing action during Race 1.
The British rider had led Race 1 in the early laps after starting from fourth after a strong Tissot Superpole session but a crash coming over the crest of the hill at Turn on Lap 4 of 18 meant his race ended early. The crash put both Lowes and his Kawasaki machine in the middle of the track after Turn 3 but thankfully all other riders were able to miss both man and machine.
Talking about the up-and-down day, Lowes said: “The start of the race was good, Superpole was good to be fourth and close to the front row. I was quite confident for the race, I had good pace. I wanted to get a good start and I did, leading the race, and then Jonny got past. Unfortunately, we had a big slide at Turn 3, it just came around too far and I couldn’t recover. Really lucky one of the other guys didn’t hit me because it’s such a blind corner there. The good thing is I have five more races at Aragon and my pace is good so we can be positive about tomorrow.”
With the pace shown by Lowes in both Tissot Superpole and his brief stint in Race 1, Lowes will be confident heading into Sunday’s Tissot Superpole Race and Race 2 as he looks to climb back to the top step of the podium; the British rider showing how competitive he can be at MotorLand Aragon with his strong showing in the short stint before his crash.
