Razgatlioglu: "This weekend was my best of the season!"
Two wins and three podiums capped a strong finale weekend for Toprak Razgatlioglu as he finished the season in style
Turkish sensation Toprak Razgatlioglu (PATA YAMAHA WorldSBK Official Team) returned to the rostrum in style over the course of the Pirelli Estoril Round as he claimed two dominant MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship victories as well as securing a third-place finish as he took three podiums in three races at the Circuito Estoril.
It meant Razgatlioglu got to stand on the podium for the first time since WorldSBK’s last visit to Portugal when the Championship held the Portuguese Round at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve; the Turkish star claiming two second place finishes that time out and was able to better that on WorldSBK’s second visit to Portugal.
He secured his first ever WorldSBK pole position in the Tissot Superpole session as he started the weekend strongly and was able to carry that form through into Race 1 and the Tissot Superpole Race with commanding victories, but finished behind the ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati duo of Chaz Davies and Scott Redding in Race 2.
Discussing the weekend, Razgatlioglu said: “This morning I was feeling very good and also in the Superpole Race because we were able to win again. I focused on Race 2 because it is an important race. We were fighting but we felt a small problem because there was not much grip on the rear, possibly because of the hot conditions. I am happy. This weekend was my best weekend of the season.”
Razgatlioglu started the 2020 season strongly with six podiums in the first eight races but he was unable to stand on the rostrum again until the Estoril Round where he ended the season with three podiums. Razgatlioglu will be hoping this will be a springboard into a strong and consistent season as he looks to mount a title challenge.
