Carrion completes Kawasaki GP Project 2021 line-up
Spanish rider Alex Carrion joins Alex Diez and Alessandro Zanca at Kawasaki GP Project as part of a three-rider attack on the WorldSSP300 2021 Championship
The final piece of the jigsaw at Kawasaki GP Project has been confirmed with Alex Carrion confirmed to continue in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship with Kawasaki GP Project. Carrion will race alongside Alex Diez and Alessandro Zanca at the Italian team as they aim for glory in WorldSSP300.
Diez was the first to be announced for the team before Zanca followed shortly after, with Carrion the third and final rider to be confirmed for the team. Carrion has WorldSSP300 experience to his name having competed in 14 races across 2019 and 2020; with 2020 being his first full season in the Championship.
Carrion secured three points finishes in his full campaign with a best result of 13th as the 17-year-old got to grips with the Championship and will be looking to build on that as he looks to move up the field as part of a three-pronged attached on the Championship. His move to Kawasaki GP Project means he switches to the team that finished fourth in the 2020 teams’ championship; something that will give Carrion confidence as he moves into his second full season.
The Spanish rider said: “I am very excited and happy for this opportunity and can't wait to start working together with my new team. After my first year in WorldSBK, combined with the great experience of the team, I am sure that together we will be able to take away important results and I will be able to show my full potential. In the meantime, I continue to prepare with my head towards our goals to get as ready as possible for the first race. I want to thank the whole team enormously, in particular Alessio, for the trust they have placed in me, my family and all the people who made all this possible. I can't wait to start the 2021 season!”
Team manager Alessio Altai added: “I am very pleased to be able to finish our announcements with the hiring of Alex Carrion, another very young driver who joins our line-up following the green line for this 2021 season. Alex is undoubtedly a fast rider. We were in contact with him for a long time but due to a series of circumstances we have never been able to finalise an agreement, which we have instead completed this year and I am very happy to have him with us. He has great potential, he must work hard to express it 100% and this is what the whole team and I want to do, to put him in a position to express himself and get the most out of our Kawasaki 400. With his signing, we complete the line-up of the riders and now we can focus on what will be the 2021 season on the track. We have a young, dynamic line-up with potential and we hope together to achieve our goals.”
