Tuesday, 10 August 2021 10:51 GMT

From a record number of podiums to peculiar number instances and the closest finish of 2021, Most burst onto the WorldSBK calendar in style

The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship enjoyed a sensational debut at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic, as the Tissot Czech Round proved to be one of the fiercest yet. Race 1 saw the closest finish of the season to-date, whilst the Championship tightened up. Most was a bookmark of the season and has seen some huge landmarks reached. Now, they’re in one place.

385 – Italy achieved a 385th podium place at Most in Race 1, courtesy of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) in third.

335 Toprak Razgatlioglu giving Yamaha a second place in Race 2 meant it was Yamaha’s 335th podium place. They achieved a 333rd in Race 1 on Saturday with Andrea Locatelli, who ironically became the first Italian on a Yamaha since the #33 of Marco Melandri to achieve back-to-back podiums.

201 – Jonathan Rea took a record-smashing 200th podium in the Tissot Superpole Race, before finishing third in Race 2, putting him on a total of 201 leaving the Czech Republic.

100/10 Toprak Razgatlioglu took a tenth career win in his 100th WorldSBK start in the Tissot Superpole Race.

90 – Jonathan Rea’s front row at Most was his 90th in WorldSBK.

55/54 – For the first time in WorldSBK history, two riders who were born on exactly the same day were on the podium together: Toprak Razgatlioglu won in Race 1, with teammate Andrea Locatelli in third.

23 – Due to his three podiums at Most, Razgatlioglu moved into fourth in the podium rankings for Yamaha and onto 23, where he is five behind Michael van der Mark and one ahead of Troy Corser. Razgatlioglu has only started 40 races for Yamaha, meaning that he on the podium more than he is off it. His eight wins for the manufacturer mean he has won 20% of his Yamaha races in WorldSBK.

23 – The second-lowest number of points scored by Jonathan Rea in a three-race weekend in WorldSBK. The lowest was 20, achieved across the three races at Estoril in 2020.

22 – Scott Redding’s win in Race 2 gave him his third podium of the weekend and his 22nd of his career. In Ducati’s rankings, he is 18th overall for podiums, whilst the hat-trick of podiums at one track was the first time this happened since Jerez in 2020.

19 – At 19, Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha ParkinGO Team) became the youngest World Supersport pole-sitter at Most, taking over from Chris Vermeulen – Vermeulen set the record originally before Gonzalez had even been born.

17 – For the first time in 17 years, the three-point gap between Rea and Razgatlioglu at the top of the standings is the closest it has been after 18 races. Then, it was James Toseland leading Chris Vermeulen by three points after 2004’s Race 2 at Assen.

8 – Scott Redding’s Race 2 win at Most gave him an eighth career win, level with Anthony Gobert and 1988 WorldSBK Champion Fred Merkel in the 31st all-time position.

7/5 – For the seventh time and the fifth time of 2021, Redding, Razgatlioglu and Rea shared a podium.

6/4 – Jonathan Rea’s run of poles extended to six at Most, becoming the fourth rider in WorldSBK history to achieve this. The others are, Ben Spies, Tom Sykes and Doug Polen.

5 – Razgatlioglu’s fifth win of the season in the Superpole Race means he joins an elite of just three riders which won five or more times in a season for Yamaha: Ben Spies (14 in 2009); Noriyuki Haga (5 in 1998, 6 in 2007, 7 in 2008) and Fabrizio Pirovano (5 in 1990)

5 – Axel Bassani took a career-best result of fifth in Race 1 on Saturday, finishing as top Independent. He also achieved the highest top speed in Race 1, with 297.5km/h.

0.040s – The closest finish of the season in Race 1 at Most, with Razgatlioglu beating Redding by 0.040s.

0.032s – In WorldSSP300 Race 2, it was the Championship’s closest podium finish with Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki) beating Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) by 0.008s and then Alejandro Carrion (Kawasaki GP Project) by 0.032s.
