SUNDAY STATS PACK: delving deep into Donington’s numbers

Two races to come on Sunday after the scene was set with an awe-inspiring Race 1 on Saturday…

The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship roared into life at Donington Park for the Prosecco DOC UK Round with one of the most magical performances in recent seasons. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) blitzed his way through from 13th on the grid to lead by the end of Lap 2 as the field watched on in admiration. However, along with this win, there were plenty of other headline records throughout the field, with more set to come on Sunday in the United Kingdom.

 

  1. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) took victory at Donington Park in Race 1 from 13th on the grid. Only one rider won at Donington Park from further down on the grid: Fabrizio Pirovano in Race 1 in 1989 from 16th.
     
  2. Seventh career win for Toprak, now level with Ben Bostrom and Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in the
     
  3. 17th podium for Razgatlioglu at Yamaha, the same as Ben Spies achieved in 2009 on his way to becoming Champion, also the same as Alex Lowes.
     
  4. Another win on Sunday for Yamaha and they’ll have achieved their 85th in WorldSBK.
     
  5. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) took his 195th podium in WorldSBK, his tenth of the year which is therefore a tenth consecutive podium.
     
  6. With Rea’s tenth consecutive podium, this is the seventh time in his career he has achieved a ten-podium streak in WorldSBK – all for Kawasaki.
     
  7. Jonathan Rea took his fourth consecutive pole of the year, the first time in his career he’s taken four poles at the start of the year and just the second time in his career that he’s clinched four straight poles.
     
  8. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) took a 28th career podium, placing him joint-30th in the all-time rankings, tied with Regis Laconi.
     
  9. Five races without a podium for Scott Redding his worst record in WorldSBK.
     
  10. Second double top-five of the season for BMW, with Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) and teammate Michael van der Mark fourth and fifth respectively. The other one was at MotorLand Aragon in Race 2.
