The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship 2022 season has been a season to remember, from historic final lap classics for the ages to title rivals clashing and ending up in the gravel. With lap record pace throughout and some of the sport’s biggest milestones being achieved, it’s impossible to take our eyes off the action, and it’s far from over! With three crucial and unpredictable rounds remaining, you can now enjoy all of the LIVE and OnDemand action for just €9.99!

A memorable campaign started at MotorLand Aragon, with a final lap showdown between Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) going the Ulsterman’s way, although Bautista would double up on Sunday for his first wins since 2019. At Assen, old enemies crossed paths with Rea and reigning World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) clashing and crashing, leaving them both on the floor and at odds over the incident.  The Circuito Estoril was next and brought incredible drama. Three incredible races and three stunning last-lap deciders. Bautista came out on top in an instant classic after Rea and Razgatlioglu fought amongst themselves in Race 1, before an epic save from Razgatlioglu in the Tissot Superpole Race cost him victory against Rea. In Race 2, Rea came out on top again after monstrous last laps to overcome Bautista before making a stunning move on the Spanish rider.

The Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” beckoned next, with Razgatlioglu able to claim his first win of the season in the Superpole Race and kickstart his title defence, with Bautista winning twice. After a short break, Donington Park gave more twists in the title race as Bautista crashed out of Race 1 from second place. Both Rea and Razgatlioglu were able to halve their gaps to Bautista in the Championship and it was game on in the Czech Republic. The Autodrom Most, despite bad weather threatening to play havoc in Race 1, gave a stunning end and the Superpole Race featured a sensational final lap showdown with Razgatlioglu and Rea clashing once more.

Only 38 points separated Bautista, Rea and Razgatlioglu in the title standings ahead of Magny-Cours and in Race 1, the drama was endless: Rea crashed at the end of the opening lap, whilst a lap later, Razgatlioglu crashed too, leaving Bautista and Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) out front, with Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) on a first podium of 2022. A final lap showdown in the Superpole Race between Bautista and Rea for second preceded a much talked about incident in Race 2; Rea and Bautista collided, leaving the Spaniard on the floor and with harsh words to say about his title rival, as Razgatlioglu went on to win. Barcelona was next and it was a Bautista hat-trick whilst American Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) took a first podium of 2022. At Portimao, the titanic trio resumed battle, with Razgatlioglu and Bautista sharing the spoils.

With nine rounds done and the European leg of the 2022 season complete, the paddock heads overseas for three flyaways at the end of 2022. Argentina welcomes WorldSBK to the Circuito San Juan Villicum at the foot of the Andes, as the final quarter of the year hones into view. As Bautista hits a good form, Razgatlioglu charges hard to stay in contention and Rea’s win drought continues to date back to Estoril, the title race may well now be a title chase, with pressure mounting and tension increasing.
