Rea leads Razgatlioglu in Mandalika WorldSBK Warm Up, Bautista fourth
The six-time Champion posted his best lap time in the final third of the session to top the timesheets on Sunday morning
Sunday action at the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship kicked off with Warm Up at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit during the Pirelli Indonesian Round as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) topped the times in the 15-minute session. He was one of only two riders to post a lap time in the 1’32s bracket as he finished just shy of half-a-second clear of nearest rival Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK).
Rea’s best time came in the final third of the session with a 1’32.366s as he posted eight lap times during the session, finishing clear of Razgatlioglu by 0.440s. Razgatlioglu, who won Race 1, posted a 1’32.806s to take second place with both Rea and Razgatlioglu ahead of Spanish rookie Xavi Vierge (Team HRC). Vierge is the sole Team HRC rider to race in Indonesia this weekend with teammate Iker Lecuona declared unfit, and he took third place in Warm Up.
Championship leader Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was fourth as he looks to secure his first WorldSBK title on Sunday in Indonesia, posting a 1’33.170s to lap eight tenths down on Rea’s time. He was a tenth ahead of teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi in fifth place with Rinaldi’s compatriot Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) in sixth as he looks to build on his strong Race 1 showing.
American star Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) was seventh, and the fastest Independent rider, with a 1’33.346s; he was the last rider within one second of Rea’s time. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK Team) was eighth with Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in ninth. Xavi Fores (BARNI Spark Racing Team) rounded out the top ten.
German rider Phillip Oettl (Team Goeleven) was last in the session after he did not set a lap time. Oettl left the pit lane on two occasions but returned back to the pits on both occasions without setting a lap time.
