Maria Herrera will start Race 1 from pole position after an impressive performance in Superpole to finish ahead of Ana Carrasco and Sara Sanchez

It was a sensational Superpole session for the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship, with Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Factory Team) securing a phenomenal pole position at the Pirelli Portuguese Round. The Spaniard continued an impressive weekend at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, setting a 1’54.609 and claiming her second pole.

FRONT ROW: Late lap places Sanchez P3

Just like in Free Practice, Herrera secured P1 early on and would continue to improve throughout the Superpole session. This left an intense session to decide the front row, with Ana Carrasco (Evan Bros Racing Yamaha Team) securing a second place on the grid on Saturday, as the #22 found time in the closing stages of the session. Meanwhile, Sara Sanchez (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) found a significant amount of time from Friday morning, taking third on the grid after an impressive late lap.

PUSHED BACK: Neila on the second row

Beatriz Neila (Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha) heads the second row of the grid as the Spanish star continued an impressive performance in fourth position. Neila lost her spot on the front row in the final minute and will start alongside Jessica Howden (Team Trasimeno), who is fifth and is back on the pace on her return. However, the #52 was given a three-place grid penalty for Saturday’s Race 1 due to irresponsible riding – demoting Howden to P8 on the grid. Meanwhile, Roberta Ponziani (Yamaha Motoxracing WCR Team), set a strong 1’57.196 during Superpole, finishing the session in P6.

TOP 10: Ruiz starts on the fourth row

Lena Kemmer (Bertl K. Racing Team) continues to show top 10 pace at Portimao, finishing Superpole in seventh position alongside Astrid Madrigal (ITALIKA Racing FIMLA) in P8. Meanwhile, Tayla Relph (TAYCO Motorsport) completed a talented third row of the grid as Pakita Ruiz (PS Racing Team 46+1) claimed the final spot inside the all-important top 10.

Further back Ran Yochay (511 Terra&Vita Racing Team) will have work to do from P20 on the grid, with the #10 aiming to remain inside the top five in the Championship standings.
