STATS ROUND-UP: Locatelli breaks record with first win as Bulega’s podium streak ends abruptly
It was a dramatic weekend at Assen as Locatelli claimed a maiden victory while title race leader Bulega suffered a double DNF
The TT Circuit Assen always provides plenty of surprises and 2025 was no different in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship as Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) claimed a first race victory while Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) had a Sunday to forget as his podium streak ended. We’ve gathered some of the big numbers from the Pirelli Dutch Round below.
196 - Ducati now have 196 poles in WorldSBK, four short of their next milestone: 200.
161/36 – Locatelli’s win was Yamaha’s first by a rider other than Razgatlioglu since the 2020 Superpole Race in Barcelona, won by the #1’s current teammate: Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team). This was 161 races ago, and 36 wins for Yamaha ago.
154/153/1 – Locatelli took his first win in his 154th race, meaning he now holds the record for most races before his first victory (153). Previously, that belonged to Chris Walker, with 131.
135 – Sam Lowes's (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) podium meant he became the 135th rider to stand on the WorldSBK rostrum, and the 22nd from Great Britain.
83 – Locatelli is the 83rd winner in WorldSBK and 16th from Italy.
54 – Locatelli, #55, ended a run of 54 races without winning for Yamaha, which began after Magny-Cours 2023, in the Superpole Race, won by Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) – running the #54.
15 – Bulega was on a streak of 15 consecutive podiums prior to his Superpole Race retirement.
5-6 – With Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) P5 and teammate Alex Lowes P6 in Race 2, it’s Bimota’s first double top-six result since 1988, when Davide Tardozzi and Stephane Mertens finished P5 and P6 at Manfeild in Race 1.
4 – Four riders have won their first race at Assen: Chris Walker (2006), Sylvain Guintoli (2012), Nicholas Spinelli (2024), Locatelli (2025).
2 – Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claimed his second WorldSBK podium in Race 2. His first was also at Assen, in Race 2, in 2024.
1/7/11 – Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) claimed his first pole and podium in WorldSBK. The pole came seven years after twin brother Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) took his first pole in 2018 at the same venue, while his P2 finish was 11 years after Alex’s first rostrum in WorldSBK; he also finished P2 in the second race of the weekend in 2014.
1/16 –Razgatlioglu won his first race in wet conditions in the Tissot Superpole Race, at the 16th time of asking; his previous best had been P2 on four occasions.
1/9 – Tarran Mackenzie (PETRONAS MIE Racing Honda) secured his first top-nine result in WorldSBK with nine in the wet Superpole Race.
0.001 – The gap between Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) and David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) in WorldSSP300 Race 2 was just 0.001s; the closest-ever finish.
